GRPI-Uganda meeting (an event to consult with the partners on the progress of the GRPI project and formulate a finalisation strategy ahead of the project completion date; Kampala; September 24-28, 2007).

GRPI-Zambia meeting (an event to consult with the partners on the progress of the GRPI project in Zambia and formulate the way forward so as to complete the project on time; Lusaka; July 15-17, 2007).

GRPI data collection work (an event to assist with data collection for GRPI-Egypt activities; Cario, Egypt; July 2007).

Economic valuation of GRFA meeting (an event to assist in the identification of target valuation aspects of genetic resource policies; Cairo, Egypt; May 11-15, 2007).

ABS experts meeting (a event to review ABS progress in GRPI-Egypt; Cairo, Egypt; March 21, 2007).

International workshop on economic issues in genetic resource policies (an event to consider issues relating to economic valuation of GRFA and the linkage with production and marketing concerns; Lusaka, Zambia; March 6-8, 2007).

Bioversity Policy and Law Unit meeting (an event where members of the GRPI team met and held discussions; Italy; February 2007).

Meeting of the ISC ( held back-to-back with the GRPI project-wide meeting, this was an event to assess progress and chart the way forward as the project prepares to wind up; Nairobi, Kenya; November 11-12, 2006).

GRPI project-wide meeting (an event planned for the purposes of coordination, information sharing, team building and capacity strengthening with the participation of all GRPI sites; Nairobi, Kenya; November 8-10, 2006).

Sui generis protection and farmers’ rights workshop (an event seeking to link issues of sui generis protection and farmers’ rights with downstream issues of seed systems, quality control in production and market identification and development; Hanoi, Vietnam; October 26-28, 2006).

Training of Trainers workshop (Hanoi, Vietnam; July 24-28, 2006).

GRPI TF meeting (an event to review and discuss progress of Phase II activities with component cordinators; Kathmandu, Nepal; July 17-21, 2006).

National multi-stakeholder consultative workshop in the framework of GRPI-Uganda (a meeting for PGRFA policy formulation; Kampala; November 17, 2005).

Regional training of trainers (ToT) workshop on "Law and policy of relevance to the management of PGR in Eastern and Central Africa" (a ToT meeting co-organised and co-sponsored by ICIPE/SEAPRI, GRPI, InWEnt (Germany) and EAPGREN/ASARECA; Nairobi, Kenya; November 7-11, 2005).

First GRPI-WCA Task Force meeting (representatives of national and sub-regional organisations discussed the results of the demand analysis and prepared a work plan for the next phase of the project; Dakar, Senegal; November 1-3, 2005).

Meeting on "Material transfer agreements and co-existence of GM and non GM seeds" and "Dialogue between AFSTA and the CGIAR" (members of the GRPI Team presented a profile of Bioversity, its new strategy, progress in the GRPI Project so far, and participated in the dialogue in topics such as IPRs, MTAs, and access to genetic resources entrusted to the CGIAR; Nairobi, Kenya; October 17-19, 2005).

Launching meeting of Phase 2 in GRPI-Nepal (Kathmandu and Dhulikhel, Nepal; October 5-7, 2005).

Teleconference of the International Steering Committee (members of the ISC and the GGCO considered and discussed Phase 2 proposals of the GRPI countries; July 26, 2005).

The GRPI/ILAC study "Documenting the 3M approach" (a survey to document the experiences of the pathfinder countries in developing their individual participatory processes within Phase 1; October 2004-June 2005).

Deadline for submission of Phase 2 proposals (deliberations of the ISC and the GGCO indicated June 30, 2005, as deadline to submit proposals for the second stage of GRPI).

Meetings to examine progress in GRPI-Uganda and its linkages with GRPI-EA (a series of interviews and meetings to discuss progress achieved by the task force in Uganda and to examine future activities in East Africa; Kampala and Entebbe, Uganda; June 13-16, 2005).

National multi-stakeholder workshop in GRPI-Egypt (a consultation event and a task force meeting to finalise the policy survey and discuss components for Phase 2; Cairo, Egypt; June 5-8, 2005).

Participation of members of the GRPI team in the sixth General Assembly of CORAF/WECARD (Dakar, Senegal; May 16-21, 2005).

Teleconference of the International Steering Committee (members of the ISC and the GGCO discussed progress in the project; May 9, 2005).

Participation in a training course for lawyers on access to genetic resources and related topics (Jinja, Uganda; April 27-29, 2005).

Second national multi-stakeholder workshop in GRPI-Vietnam (a meeting to brainstorm on the components for the Phase 2 proposal; Hanoi, Vietnam; March 29, 2005).

Capacity building and awareness-raising workshop in GRPI-Peru (a meeting in SENASA, Lima, Peru; March 17-18, 2005).

Multi-stakeholder workshop in GRPI-Ethiopia (presentation and discussion of the national report of the demand analysis, background papers and first draft of the activities for Phase 2; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; March 7-8, 2005).

Orientation mission to GRPI-Nepal (the component leaders of Phase 2, Robert Lettington and Bhuwon Sthapit met to finalise the proposal in line with the requirements requested by the ISC; Kathmandu, Nepal; February 2-5, 2005).

Implementation of the three pillars of PIBS (GGCO-Nairobi; January-February 2005).

Focus group discussions in GRPI-Ethiopia (meetings and interviews with a wide range of stakeholders; Oromiya, Jimma, Dire Dawa, Afar, Ejere and Addis Ababa; December 2004-February 2005).

Focus group meetings in GRPI-Egypt (a series of workshops was conducted in Marsa Matrouh, North Sinai, St. Katherine, Upper Egypt and DRC Headquarters to compile critical information from different stakeholders; October 2004-January 2005).

First national multi-stakeholder workshop in GRPI-Vietnam (a '3M' meeting to analyze the first results of the policy survey conducted until December 2004; Hanoi, Vietnam; January 27, 2005).

First meeting of the International Steering Committee (ISC) (an event to assess progress and future steps in the project; Rome, Italy; December 11-13, 2004).

Orientation mission to GRPI-Zambia (members of the task force and Robert Lettington met to finalise the Phase 2 proposal for consideration by the ISC; Lusaka, Zambia; November 28-December 4, 2004).

Monitoring exercise of the GRPI Project (an assessment of progress achieved by the initiative; Rome-Italy, Nairobi-Kenya and Kampala-Uganda; October 26-28 and November 22-26, 2004).

Capacity building and awareness-raising workshop in GRPI-Peru (a meeting in the Amazonian Basin; Iquitos, Peru; October 7-8, 2004).

Consultation at district level in the framework of GRPI-Uganda (four meetings were organised by the task force to consult a wide range of stakeholders topics related to the implementation of the International Treaty to draft a policy related to GRFA; Mukono, September 21, 2004; Western region, October 21, 2004; Eastern region, February 15-16, 2005; and Northern region, February 22-23, 2005).

First scoping mission to Ethiopia (17 interviews and a final wrap-up session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; February 10-14, 2003).

GRPI is implemented by Bioversity and IDRC. Financial support is provided by The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BMZ/GTZ, IDRC, Rockefeller Foundation, CIDA, and Bioversity. National and sub-regional partners are making contributions in kind. An International Steering Committee (ISC) provides strategic and operational guidance for the project.
